MoreSurgeries typically last approximately three hours, but some last as little as two hours or as long as five. The surgery's duration is limited to the time it takes to achieve the desired nasal shape.
Since nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia, the patient does not feel any pain during the operation. In the first week after surgery, the majority of our patients do not experience any pain. After the third day, most patients do not even need painkillers.
With the advancement of technology and the use of new medical instruments, swelling and bruising generally do not occur after surgery. Any possible swelling or soft tissue edema usually subsides within 7–10 days.
Every cut made on the skin leaves a scar. When we think of a “surgical scar,” we often imagine large, unsightly stitches. However, in aesthetic nose surgeries, the cuts and stitches are made in a much more controlled way, making them very difficult to see. Wound healing in the operated area is fully completed by the 12th month after surgery. The stitches dissolve on the 10th day. Depending on the individual, the scar in this area is usually so minimal that it is hardly visible to the naked eye.
The healing process varies depending on the skin type, but generally reaches about 70% by the 2nd month, 80% by the 6th month, and nearly 100% by the 12th month. In patients with thick skin, this process can extend up to 2 years, while in those with thin skin, it may be completed in as little as 6 months. The healing process is also closely related to the patient’s genetic makeup, chronic illnesses, age, alcohol and tobacco use, and dietary habits.
In our surgeries, we place a silicone tube tampon inside the nose to prevent adhesions that could cause long-term nasal obstruction. We preferably remove this tampon within 7 days. The procedure is painless and takes a total of 15–20 seconds.
Since nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia, our patients stay in the hospital for one night after surgery for monitoring, to manage any possible mild bleeding or other situations. The next morning, we check our patients and discharge them.
After rhinoplasty, depending on the technique used, there may be a 2–5 mm drop in the nasal tip. This situation can disrupt all calculations related to the nasal structure and may cause a “pollybeak deformity.” With the technique we use in our surgery, the nasal tip drops by a maximum of 2 mm, which does not negatively affect the final result.
You can wear glasses two months after surgery.
